Female Streakers Disrupt Italian Soccer Game
Finally, streaking has achieved gender equality. All of those years we had to suffer through hairy men running across baseball and soccer fields. These two women broke the gender barrier by streaking at a soccer game in Italy. Granted, they didn't get naked but small strides were made.

Soccer Player Headbutts Opponent, Then Fakes Falling Down! - Manchester United's Nani, Neill West Ham
By now, almost everyone has seen video clips of soccer players falling down faking non existant leg injuries to try and get a penalty kick awarded their team in a close match. Some of these are so obviously bad acting that Tom Cruise even has to laugh . . . when he's not appearing on Oprah. Anyway, this whole soccer faking thing reached new heights this week when Manchester United's Nani was given a red card for headbutting Lucas Neill and then falling down as if he (Nani) was the victim. Classic. Watch the video below.

Soccer Player Scores Penalty Goal Against Own Team!
I'm not a real huge soccer fan, but I understand what a penalty kick is: after a guy from the other team does something bad, the best player on your team gets to go one-on-one with the goalie, while his teammates stand around and watch. In this case (which reportedly happened last year in Hungary) the goalie makes an amazing save and then a player from his OWN TEAM kicks the ball back toward the goal. Idiot! Watch it and cringe. I wouldn't have wanted to be him in the locker room after that game.

Fan Hits Athletic Bilbao Soccer Goalie in Face with Water Bottle During Real Betis Game
A soccer fan in Spain wanted to show his disgust for Armando, the goalie of the Athletic Bilbao team after he allowed the second goal of the game against Real Betis. So, he does what any loyal soccer fan does: he calmly walks down the stairs to the edge of the field separating the stands from the field, waits until the goalie turns to get an out-of-bounds ball, then throws a plastic bottle filled with liquid at the guy.
Unfortunately, his aim was better than the team's and he nailed Armando right in the face, dropping him to his knees and opening a cut on his face. Security guards immediately grabbed the fan, who--if you watch the video--just calmly turns and starts walking up the stairs after his toss, as if that's exactly what he intended to do. At that point the referee also called the game, fearing additional hooligan violence. If you watch the clip, they show the toss a couple of times at the beginning, then a couple of goals being scored, and then back to the bottle . . . and it's all in Spanish, but I think you can tell pretty well what's going on.Labels: dumbass, fan violence, soccer

Danish Soccer Fan Attacks Referee in Euro Qualifier
Idiot! Here's more from MSNBC:An enraged Danish fan marred Saturday’s Euro 2008 qualifying when he leapt onto the field and tried to punch the referee, possibly costing his team a point and handing three to Sweden.
Denmark’s rally from a three-goal deficit at home to earn a 3-3 draw may be voided by the fan’s attempted attack of German referee Herbert Fandel, who had just awarded a penalty and sent off Danish defender Christian Poulsen with a minute to go.
The fan was prevented from striking Fandel by Danish players, but the referee walked off the field and abandoned the match.

Tottenham Fan Tries to Punch Frank Lampard
We don't quite understand why everyone in the UK loves soccer (or football...whatever). It normally seems pretty boring to us. No one gets into a fight like hockey or tackles anyone like American football but lately, it seems to be getting more interesting. This video shows an angry fan trying to take out the opposing teams player.According to AOL Sports: After Chelsea's victory, a Tottenham supporter fan onto the field, and tried to punch Frank Lampard. Security got to him before he could whale on Frankie, but he did get on the pitch. A Chelsea fan got on the field, too, in hopes of thwarting the idiot Tottenham fan, I suppose. Both idiots were detained by security. No one was hurt.

Soccer Goalie Paul Robinson Scores an Amazing Goal 80 Yards Away Against Watford
In a truly amazing moment in football (or soccer to us Yankees), Paul Robinson managed to score a goal from 80 yards away, more than half-way across the field. This Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper drilled a free kick over the opposing goalie's head and into the net. Watching the clip reminded us of how rewarding it is to play foosball with a 10 year old. Robinson felt pretty good about it, telling Sky Sports News "It was a bit of a freak really. All I had on my mind was putting it up there for our strikers to get on the end of.... It's a great feeling to score a goal, one that as a goalkeeper I thought I would never have."Labels: amazing, soccer, sports

Chelsea's John Terry Kicked in Face by Arsenal's Abou Diaby - Painful Soccer/Football Video
It was a hard fought 2-1 win for Chelsea, but John Terry doesn't remember any of it. Why? Watch this video as he gets kicked in the mouth and immediately falls to the ground and lays their motionless for quite a while after losing consciousness. The Arsenal player who accidentally kicked in the face was Abou Diaby. Fortunately for Terry, who played only after a remarkably swift recovery from an ankle injury, was actually later able to return to the stadium and join in his team-mates' celebrations. More from The Independant on the story here. You just want to watch the video though, don't you?Labels: knocked out, soccer

Blowing Signs Take Soccer Players Down
If soccer is really ready to become America's favorite sport with David Beckham on board, maybe we should be taking notes from South Africa about how not to anchor down advertising signs. This video shows a game on January 17, 2007, where large gusty winds caused signs to blow on to the field and hit players and fans.Labels: accident, soccer, sports
